So, what does this mean?
Is separatism dead?
Are we no longer centre-left in our hearts and bones?
Is the divide between who voted for the Conservative majority and NDP opposition a reflection of a generational difference more so than a regional difference?
Will I be able to watch the next election on Newsworld? What is the future of the CBC?
How much influence will the opposition have now that the Conservatives have a majority and will likely steam ahead with their budget and policies?
How will the NDP handle so many new MPs?
Doesn’t it feel great to know that a national party best represents the interests of Quebec and citizens across the country?
Growing up, with vivid memories of the referendum, during a phase when the Liberals seemed to always lead, I feel like tonight is an incredible change. But I have a lot of questions, and our country’s future seems uncertain.
I wish the NDP the best of luck keeping the Conservatives and their disasterous policies in check, and I wish the Liberals luck in re-evaluating and finding a new, effective leader.
Today was indeed exciting, but let’s not give up staying informed and passionate about our great country and it’s government.
Let’s keep the Harper Government in check. Let’s keep those loved ones, co-workers and pals who voted Conservative from focusing on the present (“Geez, I pay enough taxes already!”) and start focusing on our future (better funding for students, healthcare, better human rights and more friendly immigration policies). We vote based on issues and current events, but the election’s results impact future generations.
Let’s stay positive, informed and passionate about finding a government that is a right fit for Canada now, and for our great country’s future!
